Your First Swim meet

Untitled design.png

Swimmers

  • Always bring an extra towel.

  • Don't forget your flip-flops or deck shoes. The pool deck can be harsh (and nasty) on your feet!

  • Remember to bring easily digestible snacks- such as granola bars, dried fruit, cheerios, & goldfish crackers

  • Stay hydrated. Being dehydrated can lower a swimmer's performance by as much as 20%.

  • Cheer your teammates on! Being involved in the meet will make it more fun & help you not miss your events.

  • Bring things to do in the bullpen. Games, activities, or headphones to listen to music help the hours pass & keep the nerves away.

  • Don't take it too seriously! Have fun! You might not remember every meet performance but you will remember the fun you had!

Parents

  • Don't Forget A sharpie pen for your swimmer to write their events with.

  • Bring something soft to sit on- a cushion for the stands or a folding chair. A kickboard works great!

  • Sitting in the stands is hot. Humid. Miserable. It is just as important for you to stay hydrated. Bring water.

  • Dress in layers. Again... swim meets are hot!

  • You will spend 3 to 4 hours waiting to watch 3 minutes of swimming. Don't forget to bring something to keep you entertained. Books, laptop, knitting, sketch pad, anything to pass the time. Keeping busy keeps you sane!

  • Volunteer! I know working the meet doesn't sound like a great way to spend your weekend, but it is a great way to show your kids support. It can also be an excellent way to make some new friends!
